Getting started
Microsoft Power BI is a data visualization platform that allows you to visualize and analyze data. Access to a Power BI instance is needed to proceed, if this is not the case, you can install Microsoft Power BI from the Microsoft website.
Step 1: Retrieve the Report ID in Power BI
Login to your Power BI Portal
Retrieve the Report ID of the Report that you would like to embed in Confluence.
To retrieve the Report ID, create a new Report or open an existing Report on the Power BI Portal.
You can find the Report ID in the URL of your browser when you view a report.
In this example, the Report ID is a6f3b765-560f-4158-bd01-4da1b343248f.
Step 2: Open the Power BI for Confluence macro
Login to Confluence Cloud.
Create a new Confluence page or open an existing Confluence page where you would like to embed to Power BI report. Go to the Edit page mode and click on the “+” icon and “view more”.
Search for the Power BI for Confluence macro.
Select the Power BI for Confluence macro - the macro dialog should appear.
Step 3: Embed the Power BI Report in Confluence
Report ID or URL
Copy-paste the Report ID (e.g. a6f3b765-560f-4158-bd01-4da1b343248f) in the “Power BI Report ID or URL” input field.
Alternatively, you can also enter the Report URL (e.g. https://app.powerbi.com/reportEmbed?reportId=a6f3b765-560f-4158-bd01-4da1b343248f) of the Power BI report.
Report Filters (optional)
Custom Filters can be added (optionally) to your report via the macro dialog and are applied on all pages of the embedded Power BI report.
The basic filter syntax is as follows: Table/Field = 'value'. Table and Field are both case sensitive, value is not.
The following filter operators are allowed:
Width / Height
To change the Width or Height dimensions of the report, you can specify the Width and Height in the optional fields.
Refresh and insert the Report
Refresh the macro to preview the report. Insert the report when ready. Well done! Your Power BI report should now be embedded into your Confluence page.
